Whats it all about

The following paper recommends a top down view instead of a bottom up view of the problem of performance analysis. Today most of the performance event are captured using performance counters (via PMU - performance monitoring unit) at the discrete bottom level and then these counter values are viewed using a #profiler software and reported to the architect on how the value of each of these part/component of the processor is validating. The following paper show “A Top-Down Method for Performance Analysis and Counters Architecture” in understanding what it means to rethink and evaluate performance which even production level tools like v-tune (intel’s profiler) uses.
